🕰️ Full-time | ASAP Start
Are you passionate about children's mental health and emotional wellbeing? We're looking for a compassionate, patient, and proactive Mental Health Teaching Assistant to join a specialist trauma-informed primary school in Oxford.
About the Role:
This rewarding opportunity involves supporting children aged 5-11 who have experienced early trauma, adverse life experiences, or social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges. You'll be part of a forward-thinking, trauma-aware team that places relationships, consistency, and emotional safety at the centre of their approach.
What You'll Be Doing:
✨ Providing one-to-one and small group emotional and behavioural support
✨ Helping pupils manage anxiety, regulate emotions and develop social skills
✨ Assisting with classroom learning, play-based interventions, and sensory activities
✨ Collaborating with teachers, therapists, and pastoral teams to create a safe, structured environment
Why This Role Matters:
For many of these children, school is their sanctuary - a stable, understanding place where they can rebuild trust and confidence. In this role, you'll be a daily source of encouragement and support, helping them feel safe enough to learn and express themselves.
What's in It for You?
✔️ Valuable experience in trauma-informed and mental health-focused education
✔️ Specialist training opportunities in therapeutic approaches, behaviour support and emotional literacy
✔️ A welcoming, supportive team committed to making a difference
✔️ A strong platform for careers in education, child psychology, social care, or youth mental health services
About You:
✅ Patient, calm, and emotionally resilient
✅ A genuine interest in mental health, wellbeing, and SEND support
✅ Experience working with children, young people, or in a mental health-related setting (desirable but not essential)
✅ Available for a full-time, ASAP start
