Prospero Teaching are seeking a compassionate, patient, and creative Mentor to support an 11-year-old learner who has recently experienced permanent exclusion (PEX) and is currently not in formal education. This young person has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). They are a selective mute and find meeting new people challenging, so building trust will be key.
About the Role:
You will work 1:1 with the learner in a nurturing and engaging way, helping them re-engage with learning and build confidence. The sessions will take place in or around Whiteley, ideally in outdoor or calm environments that suit the learner's preferences.
About the Learner:
Age: 11
Diagnosis: ASD, selective mutism
Interests: Scavenger hunts, drawing comic characters, being outdoors
Needs: A calm, predictable approach with minimal pressure to speak
Aa a Mentor, you will:
Build a trusting relationship through consistent, gentle interaction
Plan and deliver engaging activities tailored to the learner's interests
Support emotional regulation and social development
Liaise with parents/carers and professionals as needed
Maintain clear records of progress and engagementAbout you:
Experience working with children with ASD and EHCPs
Understanding of selective mutism and trauma-informed practice
Creative, empathetic, and flexible
Able to work independently and adapt to the learner's pace
Enhanced DBS required (or willingness to obtain)Position - Mentor

Hours - 10 per week- ideally split into 2 hours across 4 days
Essential & Desirable Qualifications:
Minimum of 1 year of experience working within UK schools- ESSENTIAL
Experience of working with learners with SEN/ SEMH needs/ Trauma/ ASD/ Mutism/Non speakingTo be eligible for this role through Prospero teaching, you must:
Hold right to work in the UK
Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
Provide references upon request
Possess up to date Safeguarding Training (or a willingness to undertake this)
