Job Description

Electrical Bias MEP Project Manager City of London / Welwyn Garden City / Harlow | Data Centres | Permanent £85,000 - £95,000 + package If you’re an MEP Project Manager with a strong electrical background and you want to run technically important data centre projects without being buried inside one huge package for years, this is a strong opportunity. You’ll be managing smaller data centre projects and upgrade works across City of London, Welwyn Garden City and Harlow. The work is expected to include live environment upgrades, data hall modifications, electrical infrastructure improvements, LV distribution, containment, structured cabling, security, controls interfaces, UPS / generator interfaces, commissioning support and handover. These are not basic commercial projects. They are controlled data centre environments where safety, planning, communication, sequencing and client confidence all matter. The role You’ll control the overall operational delivery of electrical-biased MEP projects from bid support and pre-commencement through to practical completion and close-out. That means taking responsibility for safety, technical delivery, commercial performance, programme, supply chain coordination, customer reporting and the day-to-day management of the project team. You’ll be expected to make sure each project is delivered safely, profitably and in line with the agreed scope, while maintaining strong relationships with the client, subcontractors, suppliers and internal teams. The projects may be smaller than major hyperscale schemes, but they will still need proper control. Live data centre upgrades leave very little room for poor planning. What you’ll be doing Managing electrical-biased MEP projects across live data centre environments in City of London, Welwyn Garden City and Harlow. Taking projects from bid, pre-commencement and mobilisation through to installation, commissioning, handover and defects close-out. Leading electrical, controls, security, structured cabling and associated specialist subcontractor packages, while coordinating closely with mechanical teams where required. Reviewing project scope, installation methods, drawings, technical submissions, RAMS, programme requirements and customer expectations. Driving strong health and safety leadership across all project activities. Working in line with business processes, ISO standards and agreed project delivery procedures. Managing pre-start planning, procurement, access, logistics, permits, labour, subcontractors and materials. Working closely with the commercial team to manage subcontractor performance, variations, risk, opportunity, cost, value and profitability. Producing customer progress reports, internal project reports, contract reviews and accurate project data. Maintaining control of programme forecasts, cost forecasts, risks, issues and commercial position. Building strong working relationships with customers, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers. Managing specialist subcontractors to make sure work is carried out safely, to specification, to programme and to the required quality standard. Leading the project team by setting clear objectives, responsibilities and accountabilities. Supporting team performance through guidance, feedback, mentoring and day-to-day leadership. Making sure QA records, test sheets, commissioning information, O&M manuals, handover documents and close-out information are completed properly. Identifying future customer needs and feeding useful recommendations back into the business. Representing the business professionally with clients, internal teams, subcontractors and third parties. What you’ll need You’ll need experience managing electrical or electrical-biased MEP projects within data centres, critical environments, commercial fit-out, infrastructure or technically demanding building services environments. Data centre experience would be a strong advantage, especially if you have worked on live site upgrades, data hall works, LV distribution, UPS systems, generator interfaces, switchgear, containment, structured cabling, security systems, BMS / EMS interfaces or commissioning-heavy projects. You should be confident managing projects from pre-start through to completion, with responsibility for safety, programme, subcontractors, commercial performance, client reporting and handover. You’ll need strong leadership skills and the ability to manage project teams, subcontractors, suppliers and customer relationships properly. You should understand profit and loss, commercial costing, risk management, change control, subcontractor performance and project reporting. A strong electrical background is essential. You may come from a trade, HNC / HND, degree or equivalent building services background, but you must be able to hold your own technically on electrical delivery. You’ll need good IT skills, including Word, Excel, MS Project and PowerPoint. SMSTS, IOSH Managing Safely, CSCS and ECS accreditation would be useful. Right to work in the UK is essential. The right person You’re organised, commercially aware and technically credible. You can manage the client, lead the site team, push subcontractors and keep a clear grip on safety, programme, cost and quality. You understand that smaller data centre upgrade projects still need serious management. Access, permits, live services, security, shutdowns, commissioning and client operations all need to be planned properly. You do not wait for problems to escalate. You spot them early, deal with them properly and keep the project moving. This role will suit an Electrical Bias MEP Project Manager who wants variety, responsibility and exposure to multiple data centre environments, with projects across City of London, Welwyn Garden City and Harlow.
