Job description an MEP Quality Engineer
Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented experienced MEP Quality Engineer to join our dynamic team delivering the redevelopment project at Devonport, Dockyard. The successful candidate will be working on one of the UK’s most significant defence programmes.
As an MEP Quality Engineer, you will be responsible for monitoring and ensuring the quality of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing works across the project. You'll oversee inspections, audits, and surveillance activities, ensuring compliance with rigorous Quality Management Systems (QMS). You'll work closely with both the delivery team and supply chain partners, supporting a strong culture of quality and continuous improvement.
Due to the sensitive nature of the site, BPSS security clearance is required. Please note that this process can take up to 8 weeks.
Eligibility criteria: Candidates must hold a passport from an EU, NATO, Five Eyes, or MISWG member country and have resided in the UK for the past 5 years.
Responsibilities
As a MEP Quality Engineer your day-to-day tasks will include:
* Liaising between the KBJV delivery team and the Client regarding the timing of Hold and Witness inspections and Surveillance activities.
* Inspecting works at notified points and conducting surveillance.
* Assisting in the undertaking on-site investigation of specific quality problems and participate in their resolution.
* Attending quality meetings as required.
* Presenting quality training modules to KBJV and supply chain staff.
* Ensure that data demonstrating the achievement of quality objectives and targets is produced and maintained.
* Ensuring that the KBJV QMS is robustly implemented.
* Ensuring that on-site supply chain partners maintain a robust documented Quality Management System that meets the requirements of the Works Information and supports self-certification.
* Ensuring that quality meetings are held in order to ensure that an excellent quality culture is maintained and that effective performance reporting, tracking of mandated quality-related Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and trend identification is undertaken.
* Assisting the KBJV and on-site supply chain partners in the development and effective implementation of contract specific/activity related KPIs.
* Assisting the construction team with the review and effective implementation of ITPs, supply chain quality plans, quality control procedures, quality improvement plans and ensuring that the closeout of NCRs, CARs and observations is undertaken in a compliant and timely manner.

Who are we looking for?
Experience:
Strong knowledge of QMS, ITPs, and quality processes
Experience in inspections, surveillance, and problem resolution
Excellent communication and organisational skills
Qualifications:
Electrical or Mechanical or Plumbing Engineering, Quality, Construction related Qualification (HNC, BSc, MSc, BEng, Meng).
ECS/CSCS Cards – PQP/AQP
Digital Proficiency: Strong digital skills are essential. Intermediate proficiency in Excel is required, with experience in Power Query, Power BI, or similar tools considered highly advantageous. Familiarity with platforms such as ASite, ProjectWise, Synchro, and other Bentley Systems is expected. Awareness of BIM processes and terminology is also desirable.
Communication & Literacy: A strong command of written and spoken English is essential, along with the ability to confidently interpret and use industry terminology.
Attention to Detail & Data Consistency: A clear appreciation for neatness, consistency, and structured Information Delivery is essential. The candidate should understand the necessity for and promote the importance of consistent and accurate data,
Personality & Delivery Skills: A calm, patient, approachable, and methodical working style is needed, combined with the confidence & firmness to uphold and regularly reinforce quality standards and processes across complex, fast-paced delivery teams sometimes with challenging personalities.
Ability to commute/relocate:
* Plymouth: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)
* Hours of work – Monday to Friday – 08.00 am to 17.00 pm (42.5)
Licence/Certification:
* EU, NATO, 5 Eyes, or MISWG member passports (preferred)
