Night Engineer

🕒 37.5 hours per week | Sunday night to Friday morning | 9:30pm – 5:30am

The Role
We’re looking for a Night Engineer to support a busy production site, carrying out preventative maintenance during non-production hours to ensure equipment runs safely, efficiently, and reliably.
Working closely with the night shift operator and wider engineering team, you’ll play a key role in maintaining brewing and packaging equipment, minimising downtime, and driving continuous improvement across the site.
This is a hands-on, autonomous role, ideal for someone comfortable working independently while maintaining high standards of safety, organisation, and engineering practice.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across site equipment
* Diagnose and resolve electrical and mechanical faults efficiently
* Maintain and improve automation systems to minimise downtime
* Ensure all equipment operates at optimal performance levels
* Support installation and commissioning of new machinery
* Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation
* Develop and manage maintenance schedules, SOPs, and validation/testing processes
* Manage engineering spares, tools, and inventory, including supplier coordination
* Work collaboratively with production teams to ensure smooth shift handovers
* Identify and support continuous improvement opportunities across the plant
* Ensure full compliance with health & safety standards
* Maintain a clean, safe, and organised working environment
About You
* Qualified in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (ONC, NVQ Level 3, C&G, BTEC or equivalent)
* Experience in a hands-on maintenance role within FMCG or manufacturing
* Strong electrical fault-finding skills (multi-skilled preferred)
* Experience working with automated production equipment
* Good IT skills for reporting and record-keeping
* Knowledge of health & safety and safe working practices
* Highly organised with strong attention to detail
* Able to work independently in a fast-paced production environment
* Strong communication and problem-solving skills
* Flexible and adaptable approach to work
Desirable
BOAS certification
Welding/fabrication experience
FLT licence
Experience supporting projects or continuous improvement initiatives
Exposure to process or brewing environments
