Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Nuclear Site Security Manager to lead and manage all aspects of site security for a nuclear facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining security strategies, ensuring compliance with nuclear site licence conditions, regulatory frameworks, and UK legislation. This role is critical in protecting nuclear materials, assets, and personnel, while fostering a strong security culture across the site.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and oversee the Site Security Plan in line with ONR (Office for Nuclear Regulation) and regulatory requirements.
Lead, manage, and motivate the on-site security team (staff and contractors), ensuring 24/7 protection of site operations.
Act as the principal point of contact with regulators, law enforcement, and other external security stakeholders.
Oversee physical security systems including access control, CCTV, intruder detection, perimeter protection, and security infrastructure.
Conduct and review risk assessments, threat analysis, and security incident investigations.
Manage security exercises, drills, and emergency response plans, ensuring readiness at all times.
Provide security briefings, training, and awareness programmes to staff, contractors, and visitors.
Maintain robust procedures for vetting, clearances, and compliance with security clearance requirements.
Ensure accurate documentation, reporting, and audits in line with nuclear security regulations and quality standards.
Continuously review and improve site security arrangements to adapt to evolving threats and risks.
Essential Skills & Experience
Proven experience in a security management role within nuclear, defence, or other highly regulated industries.
Strong knowledge of UK nuclear security regulations and ONR/IAEA standards.
Experience leading and developing multidisciplinary security teams.
Demonstrable understanding of physical, personnel, and cyber security principles.
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with experience liaising with regulators and emergency services.
Strong crisis management, decision-making, and leadership abilities.
Desirable Skills & Qualifications
Degree (or equivalent) in Security Management, Risk Management, or a related discipline.
Chartered Security Professional (CSyP) or membership of the Security Institute (SyI).
Counter Terrorism awareness training.
Knowledge of cyber/IT security integration within physical security systems.
Previous experience on a nuclear licensed site
