As a Manager in Waiting, you’ll lead Gumboots while the current manager is away, before moving on to your own permanent nursery in South East London. It’s a chance to get fully integrated into LEYF, understand our values, and build relationships before stepping into your next leadership role.

This opportunity starts at our Gumboots Nursery and Pre-School, a truly special setting that plays a vital role in our social enterprise model. Gumboots supports circa 90 and generates over £1 million a year, helping us reinvest in the business and offer funded places to some of London’s most disadvantaged children. It’s a nursery with purpose, and you’ll be at the heart of it.
You’ll be joining a well-established team, with two experienced Deputies and strong Room Managers who know the nursery inside out. Many of the team have been with us for a long time, creating a stable environment for children and colleagues. The garden is huge and thoughtfully split so each room has its own outdoor space, giving children the freedom to explore safely and creatively. There’s also free parking at this nursery, rare for the Dulwich area.
We know how important support is. You’ll have an Area Manager, a network of Nursery Managers in your area, wider monthly manager meetings, and a central office team to help you meet your occupancy, recruitment, local community and quality goals. And most importantly, you’ll be part of a genuinely kind company culture that values bravery, fun, inspiration and nurture, just like you do!
We’re looking for you to be Level 3+ qualified, with experience leading a larger nursery, and to be able to evidence how you build and maintain quality education and a strong team. You’ll be a high quality, credible leader ready to grow with us.
