Our compassionate Alternative Provision in Burnley, Lancashire, is seeking a dedicated and empathetic Nurture Teacher to join our team on a permanent contract, starting in September 2025. This vital role is perfect for an experienced individual, even without QTS, who has a deep understanding of nurturing principles and a proven ability to re-engage students who struggle in mainstream settings. About Our Alternative Provision We are committed to creating a safe and inclusive space where every student feels understood, valued, and empowered to overcome their barriers to learning. The Role: Nurture Teacher (Unqualified) As our Nurture Teacher, you will be at the heart of our supportive approach, helping students to develop their emotional literacy, social skills, and academic confidence. You will: Create a Nurturing Environment: Develop and maintain a warm, predictable, and highly supportive classroom or small group setting based on nurturing principles. Build Relationships: Establish strong, trusting relationships with students, understanding their individual needs and providing consistent emotional support. Deliver Bespoke Learning: Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated learning activities that cater to diverse academic abilities and address social, emotional, and behavioural needs. Promote Well-being: Support students in developing self-regulation, empathy, and positive coping strategies. Monitor Progress: Observe and assess student social, emotional, and academic progress, feeding into individualised learning plans and reviews. Collaborate: Work closely with the AP team, parents/carers, and external professionals (e.g., therapists, social workers) to ensure a cohesive approach to student support. Manage Behaviour: Utilise positive behaviour management strategies, de-escalation techniques, and restorative approaches. What We're Looking For Significant experience working with children and young people who have social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, or who are disengaged from mainstream education. This could include roles in nurture groups, alternative provisions, SEND schools, youth work, or pastoral support. A strong understanding of nurturing principles and child development. Exceptional patience, empathy, resilience, and a calm demeanour. Proven ability to build rapport and establish trusting relationships with vulnerable young people. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, colleagues, and parents. A proactive, organised, and flexible approach to challenges. Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. An Enhanced DBS check will be required upon appointment.
