Job Description – Occupational Health Advisor
A leading organisation in the Southampton area is seeking a Junior Occupational Health Advisor to join its on-site Occupational Health team. Supporting approximately 850 employees and 420 contractors, this role is responsible for delivering a professional, evidence-based clinical service that promotes health, safety and wellbeing across the workplace.
The successful candidate will conduct medicals, health surveillance, case management, drug and alcohol testing and support annual health programmes, including flu vaccination delivery. They will also contribute to health promotion initiatives, provide professional occupational health advice, support policy and risk assessment development, and work collaboratively with key teams and stakeholders across the site.
Key Responsibilities

Deliver high-quality occupational health services and assessments, ensuring clinical recommendations align with business needs and policies.

Maintain accurate and confidential clinical records for all employees.
*
Support the development and review of Occupational Health policies, procedures and guidelines.
*
Build strong and trusted relationships with employees, managers and HR partners to deliver a robust Occupational Health service aligned with legislation and best practice.
*
Provide specialist reports and management advice during periods of ill health or sickness absence, in line with best practice and the Equality Act.
*
Manage clinical casework proactively, ensuring timely and evidence-based reporting.
*
Act as an internal advisor on all aspects of workplace health and wellbeing.
*
Provide professional, sensitive and proactive communication to all stakeholders.
*
Maintain professional development in line with industry expectations and regulatory requirements.
*
Produce reports, metrics and data insights as required.
What You Will Bring
*
Registered nurse with recent experience in occupational health across commercial or safety-critical environments.
*
NMC Level 1 essential; OH-specific qualifications such as SCPHN, DipOHPrac, OHNC or equivalent desirable.
*
Proven experience conducting health surveillance including audiometry, spirometry, HAVS, and safety-critical medicals (e.g., working at height, forklift, confined space).
*
Sound knowledge of health and safety, clinical audit, evidence-based practice and policy development.
*
Strong understanding of relevant legislation and best practice standards within occupational health.
*
Confident user of IT systems including MS Office and OH/medical databases.
*
Demonstrable CPD and ability to meet revalidation requirements.
*
Proven time-management, prioritisation and caseload management skills.
*
Strong communication skills with the ability to deliver sensitive medical information professionally and confidentially.
*
Full UK driving licence and access to personal transport (due to site location).
*
Eligibility to work in the UK.
