Occupational Health Advisor
Location: County Hall, High Street, Newport, PO30 1UD

Contract Duration: 4+ Months
Working Hours: Mon – Fri, 09:00 – 17:00, 37 Hours per week

Responsibilities
Assist in delivering a high-quality, consistent, and effective clinical lead occupational health service for the council and island schools.
Promote and maintain a positive health and wellbeing environment within the workplace.
Review, develop, and implement occupational health policies and practices aligned with organizational needs, in collaboration with human resources, health and safety colleagues, and other stakeholders.
Triage management referrals and schedule occupational health advisor clinics.
Manage a personal caseload of occupational health referrals through face-to-face, telephone, and paper-based methods.
Provide advice and guidance to managers on interventions and adjustments to support the management of health conditions within the workplace.
Offer specialist occupational health advice on general medical matters related to employment, including the applicability of the Equality Act.
Prepare reports and maintain accurate health records in line with professional guidelines and Council policies.
Attend meetings and case conferences to provide expert advice on occupational health matters.
Coordinate and deliver health surveillance (e.g., audiometry, HAVS, skin surveillance, night workers) and immunization programs (e.g., flu vaccinations) within the workplace.
Design and deliver promotions, presentations, and training sessions on worker health and wellbeing, stress awareness, and management of sickness absence.
Ensure ongoing professional development is maintained in accordance with Nursing and Midwifery Council requirements.
Person Specification
Strong understanding of occupational health policies and practices.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for advising managers and collaborating with colleagues.
Ability to manage a diverse caseload effectively.
Proficient in preparing detailed reports and maintaining accurate health records.
Experience in delivering health surveillance and immunization programs.
Skilled in designing and delivering health and wellbeing training sessions.
Commitment to professional development and staying updated with industry standards.
