Key Responsibilities
Assessment & Planning
Assess patients' functional abilities, needs, and goals using standardised and non-standardised tools.
Develop personalised treatment and rehabilitation programmes to support independence in daily living, work, or education.
Advise on adaptations, equipment, or assistive technology to enhance participation and safety.
Intervention & Support
Deliver therapy sessions to improve mobility, self-care, cognition, and psychosocial functioning.
Provide guidance on fatigue management, pain management, and coping strategies.
Support clients and families in developing skills and confidence for daily activities.
Collaboration & Advocacy
Work as part of a multidisciplinary team with physiotherapists, speech therapists, doctors, nurses, social workers, and educators.
Liaise with carers, employers, and community agencies to ensure holistic care and support.
Advocate for clients' needs in relation to health, education, and social services.
Record Keeping & Reporting
Maintain accurate documentation of assessments, interventions, and progress.
Produce professional reports and contribute to care plans, risk assessments, and discharge planning.
Professional Standards & Development
Adhere to HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) standards and occupational therapy best practice.
Engage in regular supervision, reflective practice, and continuing professional development (CPD).
Contribute to service development, quality improvement, and student mentoring where appropriate.
Essential Requirements
Degree in Occupational Therapy (or equivalent qualification).
HCPC registration.
Knowledge of occupational therapy models and approaches (e.g., MOHO, COPM, biomechanical, cognitive-behavioural).
Strong problem-solving, planning, and communication skills.
Ability to manage a varied caseload across different settings.
Desirable Requirements
Experience in [specific area - e.g., paediatrics, mental health, physical rehabilitation, neurology, community care].
Training in specialist interventions (e.g., sensory integration, hand therapy, vocational rehabilitation).
Knowledge of assistive technology and environmental adaptations.
Experience of research, service evaluation, or quality improvement.
