Job Description
O&M Engineer / Service Engineer – Operations & Maintenance - BESS (Battery Energy Storage) – England – United Kingdom - Freelance/ Contract
We are currently partnering with a leading UK IPP who is looking to expand their O&M team as multiple utility-scale BESS assets transition from construction into operations. We are seeking experienced O&M Engineers to take ownership of day-to-day operations across a portfolio of battery energy storage plants with some co-located with solar. Multiple openings with immediate starts.
Key Responsibilities:
* Planned and reactive maintenance, fault-finding, resets and component replacement on utility-scale BESS.
* SCADA performance monitoring and analysis, EMS/BMS parameter checks and diagnostics to optimise availability and cycling.
* HSE compliance, RAMS preparation, permits to work and safe systems of work.
* Interface with SAPs/HV personnel where required and coordination with trading/dispatch teams to ensure overnight charge readiness.
* Event response and reactive call-outs; contribute to root-cause analysis, reporting and continuous improvement.
* Maintain asset documentation, logs and work orders to agreed standards.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Electrical engineering background with strong understanding of EMS/BMS and SCADA.
* Ideally experience in utility-scale BESS O&M
* Competent with permits, RAMS and site HSE requirements; HV awareness and experience interfacing with SAPs.
* Strong troubleshooting skills, concise reporting and stakeholder communication.
* Full right to work in the UK; flexibility to travel for periodic site visits and reactive interventions.
Contract Details:
* Contract type: Freelance/contract, 6–12 months rolling with high extension potential.
* Start date: ASAP
* Locations: North West, South West and South England
* Travel: Approximately 1 site visit per month plus reactive call-outs.
* Equipment: PPE provided; no vehicle required.
* IR35: Outside
