Job Title: Operations Manager – Logistics
Location: Wickford - Essex
Employment Type: Full Time – Temp to Perm
Salary: £30k to £35k depending on experience
Reports To: Head of Operations / Director of Logistics
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Operations Manager – Logistics to oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of all logistics operations. This role is crucial to ensuring the efficient movement of goods, optimizing warehouse and transportation functions, and maintaining high service levels to meet customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead daily logistics operations, including warehousing, inventory control, transportation, and order fulfilment.
* Manage logistics teams and supervisors to ensure smooth and timely operations.
* Optimize routing, reduce transport costs, and improve delivery performance.
* Monitor KPIs and operational metrics to ensure compliance with service level agreements (SLAs).
* Maintain strong relationships with third-party logistics (3PL) providers, carriers, and suppliers.
* Oversee compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards, as well as legal and regulatory requirements.
* Implement continuous improvement initiatives using Lean or Six Sigma methodologies.
* Collaborate with procurement, customer service, and sales to align logistics activities with broader business goals.
* Oversee logistics budgets and provide accurate forecasts and cost analysis.
* Ensure systems (e.g., WMS, TMS) are effectively used and maintained.
Qualifications:
* Proven experience as an Operations Manager or similar role in logistics, supply chain, or transportation.
* Solid understanding of logistics systems, distribution networks, and inventory management.
* Experience with logistics software (e.g., WMS, TMS, ERP).
* Strong leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
* Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field (preferred).
Preferred Skills:
* Lean/Six Sigma certification.
