Operations Manager – Solar PV Installations- Midlands to South Region- Field Based
***PLEASE NOTE: To be considered for this role, you can be based anywhere south of the North West, but you’ll need to travel to different sites across the Midlands and South around 3/4 days a week. Don’t worry, your accommodation expenses will be fully covered***
Axon Moore is working with a leading renewable energy business to recruit an experienced Operations Manager to oversee Solar PV installation projects across the UK. This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives on managing field teams, delivering projects safely and efficiently, and ensuring a first-class customer experience.
Salary: £60- £70k basic + Company Car + Fuel Expenses + Annual 10% Bonus
Working Environment: Field and Office based, with nationwide travel including overnight stays up to 3 night per week to ensure projects are correctly managed
Reports To: Operations Director
About the Role
As Operations Manager you will take responsibility for multiple field teams and subcontractors, ensuring that every project is delivered safely, on time and to the highest quality standards. This will involve managing roughly 4 projects at a time. You will be the main point of contact for clients during construction and play a key role in maintaining positive working relationships.

Key Responsibilities
Health, Safety and Environment
Promote a strong health and safety culture across all sites
Ensure teams follow company HSE policies and legal requirements
Carry out regular site audits, toolbox talks and incident investigations
Maintain up-to-date documentation including CPPs, risk assessments and daily records
Lead by example, making sure all team members use the correct PPE
Focus on continuous improvement in safe working practices, particularly when working at height
Operational Excellence
Manage the delivery of Solar PV installation projects (this role will cover the south of the country, from the Midlands, south)
Oversee multiple field teams, typically four per week
Maintain clear communication with clients to provide updates and resolve issues
Monitor project budgets and performance, highlighting any variances
Manage resources and materials efficiently to reduce waste and unnecessary costs
Carry out final inspections and ensure handovers are completed correctly
Support effective use of company systems and processes
Financial and Commercial Focus
Manage project budgets and control costs in line with targets
Review planned versus actual performance for all contracts
Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs
Spot opportunities to offer additional services or upgrades to clients
Reconcile material usage and logistics costs accurately
Customer Focus
Build and maintain positive relationships with clients at all levels
Act as the main point of contact throughout project delivery
Ensure all customer expectations are met through clear and professional communication
Attend client meetings and site visits, including overnight stays when necessary
People Management
Lead, motivate and support field-based teams
Conduct regular one-to-one meetings and provide coaching and feedback
Identify training needs and support on-the-job development
Manage recruitment, performance and development of team members
Encourage teamwork, accountability and a positive working culture
What We Are Looking For
Experience in operations management within construction, engineering or renewable energy
Strong commercial awareness and experience managing budgets
Excellent knowledge of health and safety, including working at height
Proven ability to lead multiple field teams and subcontractors
Confident communicator with strong organisational skills
Flexible and willing to travel across the UK
Qualifications
SMSTS (5 Day)
CSCS Card
IPAF
IOSH (1 Day)
NVQ Level 3 or equivalent (desirable)
Good working knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Project
