If so, GSL Education are delighted to offer an opportunity for an Outdoor Education Support Worker to join a unique educational setting located in the scenic countryside of Poole.
About the School: The school is an education setting based for 16 – 25+ years old with Special Educational Needs. It is based on 350 acres of beautiful Dorset countryside. The school operate enterprise activities and vocational teaching methods to bridge the gap between education and employment for young people and adults with SEN in Dorset and the local area. The school focuses on vocations like horticulture, agriculture, equine skills and animal care as well as many more, to enrich the lives and education of its pupils.
Responsibilities:
Support young people aged 16–25+ with Special Educational Needs in a unique, vocational learning environment set across 350 acres of countryside.
Assist in the delivery of hands-on learning in areas such as horticulture, agriculture, equine skills, and animal care—core vocational pathways offered by the school.
Work collaboratively with teaching staff to implement enterprise-based activities that bridge the gap between education and employment.
Encourage learners to engage with outdoor tasks and develop practical, real-world skills that promote independence and self-confidence.
Provide one-to-one and group support tailored to individual needs, ensuring each student has access to a meaningful, person-centred education.
Help maintain outdoor learning spaces, including gardens, animal enclosures, and agricultural areas, creating a safe and stimulating environment.
Promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing, acting as a consistent, supportive presence throughout the school day.
Contribute to the overall ethos of the school, which values inclusion, opportunity, and personal growth through nature-based and vocational learning.
Requirements:
A strong interest in working within a specialist educational setting that supports young people aged 16–25+ with Special Educational Needs through practical, real-life learning experiences.
Enthusiasm for outdoor, hands-on activities that reflect the school’s focus on horticulture, agriculture, equine skills, animal care, and other vocational areas.
A commitment to the school’s mission of bridging the gap between education and employment through enterprise-based learning and person-centred support.
Physical and emotional resilience to work across a 350-acre countryside site, engaging students in outdoor education in all weather conditions.
Ability to contribute to the creation of a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment that enriches the lives of learners and promotes personal growth.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including teaching staff, therapists, and vocational instructors.
Patience, adaptability, and a proactive attitude when supporting pupils with diverse needs, including autism, learning disabilities, and communication difficulties.
While previous experience with SEN is beneficial, the school values dedication and a willingness to learn—training and support are provided for the right candidate.
Ideally need a valid driving license and be willing to drive.
An enhanced DBS certificate on the update service or willingness to apply through GSL Education.
