Job Description

Are you a passionate, qualified educator who believes the best classroom often has no walls? We are seeking an inspirational and resilient Outdoor Education Teacher to join a thriving secondary school in Blackpool and deliver a dynamic curriculum to students aged 11-16 (Key Stage 3 & 4). This is a unique opportunity to use the natural environment and local resources to foster resilience, teamwork, and academic growth in young people. If you're ready to bring learning to life and make a tangible, lasting impact, we want to hear from you! As our Outdoor Education Teacher, you will be instrumental in designing and delivering an engaging, progressive outdoor learning programme that complements the existing academic curriculum. You will work both on-site and off-site, leveraging Blackpool's unique coastal and natural settings. Key Responsibilities: Curriculum Development & Delivery: Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality, inspiring outdoor education sessions for students aged 11-16, integrating skills like bushcraft, orienteering, environmental science, team challenges, and practical conservation into lessons. Student Engagement: Use experiential learning to engage students, particularly those who struggle in a traditional classroom setting, focusing on developing resilience, self-esteem, and collaborative teamwork skills. Safety & Risk Management: Conduct thorough and up-to-date risk assessments for all activities, ensuring the highest standards of health and safety are maintained for students and staff. Assessment & Progression: Monitor and record student progress, providing clear feedback and adapting activities to meet diverse learning needs, including students with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) or challenging behaviour. Resources: Maintain, inspect, and manage all outdoor equipment and learning spaces. What We Are Looking For: We are searching for a highly motivated and qualified individual with a genuine passion for the outdoors and empowering young people. Essential Qualifications & Experience: A recognised teaching qualification (QTS or equivalent) OR a significant relevant qualification in Outdoor Education/Adventure Learning. Relevant National Governing Body (NGB) qualifications or professional certifications in at least one or more outdoor activities (e.g., Forest School Leader Level 3, Mountain Leader, Archery Instructor, Paddle Sports Instructor). Proven experience working with the 11-16 age group in an educational or youth work setting, ideally within a secondary school environment. A strong, positive approach to behaviour management and the ability to build effective, trusting relationships with all students. Current Outdoor First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain one). Strong knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures. Desirable: Experience with The Duke of Edinburgh's Award (DofE). Knowledge of local Blackpool geography and environmental resources. Full UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle (desirable for off-site activities). Why Join Our Blackpool School? Located in the vibrant community of Blackpool, Lancashire, you'll find a school that values innovation, holistic education, and providing every student with opportunities to succeed. Meaningful Impact: Play a pivotal role in students' personal growth, confidence, and life skills development. Supportive Team: Work within a collaborative, friendly staff team committed to continuous professional development. Unique Setting: Utilise the fantastic local environment-from the coast to nearby parks and woodlands-as your extended classroom. APPLY NOW and start your next adventure in Outdoor Education!
