Job Description
Key responsibilities
Design and technical review:
Designing, assessing, and approving protection and control schemes for high-voltage substations and related infrastructure.
Equipment specification:
Creating functional specifications and schedules for equipment such as switchgear, power transformers, and protective relays.
Coordination and collaboration:
Working with internal teams, project managers, contractors, and suppliers to deliver projects on time and ensuring technical alignment.
Safety and compliance:
Ensuring all designs comply with National Grid/DNO engineering standards, regulatory requirements, and safety best practices.
Risk management:
Identifying and mitigating potential safety and reliability risks in designs through hazard identification and risk assessments.
Documentation:
Preparing and maintaining technical documentation, including design reports, specifications, and approval records.
Typical skills and experience
Experience in protection and control design for high-voltage substations.
Knowledge of DNO or National Grid design standards and UK grid systems is often preferred.
Proficiency in power system studies and setting coordination.
Experience with SCADA systems and other control and telemetry equipment.
Familiarity with health and safety regulations, such as CDM (Construction Design and Management) awareness.
