Senior Planning & Project Controls Opportunities Manchester and the North West Permanent appointments Competitive salaries and benefits Mercury Hampton is supporting several infrastructure delivery organisations with confidential senior appointments across planning, programme controls and project delivery. The businesses we are working with operate across sectors including: Water and wastewater Energy and utilities Civil engineering Transportation Environmental infrastructure Major capital programmes We are interested in speaking with experienced planning professionals who are operating at Senior Planner, Lead Planner, Planning Manager or Project Controls Manager level. These opportunities are suited to individuals who can look beyond the management of a single project schedule and provide wider leadership across teams, programmes or portfolios. The types of positions available Depending on your background and level of experience, responsibilities may include: Leading and developing project planning teams. Managing planning resources across multiple projects. Supporting the development of planning and project-controls capability. Establishing consistent programme standards and reporting processes. Reviewing schedules developed by project teams, contractors and supply-chain partners. Assessing programme logic, sequencing, float, critical paths and delivery assumptions. Managing baseline development, programme updates and change control. Supporting the assessment of delay, disruption and compensation events. Leading collaborative-planning sessions and programme-review meetings. Producing portfolio-level reporting for senior management and clients. Developing programme dashboards and performance reporting. Working closely with operational, engineering, commercial and design teams. Presenting programme risks, trends and recovery recommendations to senior stakeholders. Challenging unrealistic programmes and driving practical delivery outcomes. Relevant experience We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate several of the following: Experience in a Planning Manager, Lead Planner, Senior Planner or Project Controls position. Responsibility for managing, supervising or mentoring planners. Experience working across several projects or a wider programme portfolio. Advanced Primavera P6 capability. Experience using Microsoft Project, Asta Powerproject or similar software. Strong understanding of NEC contracts and programme requirements. Experience managing accepted programmes, baselines and formal revisions. Involvement in compensation events, early warnings and programme-impact assessments. Experience leading programme reviews or collaborative-planning workshops. Strong construction-sequencing and delivery knowledge. Experience producing senior-level reports, dashboards and programme summaries. The confidence to challenge project teams, contractors and stakeholders. Strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder-management skills. Experience using Power BI, CEMAR or other programme and contract-management systems would be beneficial. Professional qualifications through APM or another relevant industry body would also be welcomed. Sector backgrounds Candidates may come from a range of complex infrastructure environments, including: Water and wastewater treatment Utilities and pipelines Power and energy Rail and transportation Nuclear Major civil engineering Process engineering MEICA delivery Environmental and resilience programmes Direct water-sector experience may be required for some appointments, although transferable experience from other regulated infrastructure sectors will also be considered.
