Pastoral Support Assistant – Aspiring Counsellor Location: Dorking and Surrounding Areas Salary: £101.40 – £115 per day | Full-time, Term-time | Immediate and January starts Do you have a passion for supporting young people’s mental health and emotional wellbeing? I’m Farhad at Milk Education, and I’m currently working with a cluster of welcoming and supportive secondary schools in Dorking who are seeking compassionate and patient individuals to join their pastoral and wellbeing teams. This is a fantastic opportunity for psychology, counselling, or health and social care graduates — or anyone looking to build a career in mental health, education, or youth work. You’ll be supporting students who may be facing social, emotional or behavioural challenges, helping them to develop confidence, self-esteem and resilience. This isn’t just a job — it’s a chance to change lives while gaining invaluable hands-on experience that can lead to future roles such as School Counsellor, Pastoral Lead, Educational Psychologist, Youth Worker, or Mental Health Practitioner. What You’ll Be Doing Offering 1:1 emotional and pastoral support to students who may be struggling with anxiety, low self-esteem, or challenging circumstances Assisting with behaviour management and helping to create a calm, supportive learning environment Supporting attendance and engagement, helping students reconnect with their learning Working closely with teachers, safeguarding leads, counsellors and SEN staff to implement individual support plans Taking part in wellbeing initiatives, group sessions and mentoring programmes Promoting a culture of empathy, inclusion, and emotional awareness across the school What I’m Looking For A caring, patient and empathetic personality – someone who genuinely enjoys helping others Ideally, a background or degree in Psychology, Counselling, Criminology, Health & Social Care or a related field (not essential) Strong communication and relationship-building skills Emotional resilience and the ability to remain calm under pressure A genuine interest in mental health, safeguarding, and youth development A proactive and reliable approach – someone who’s not afraid to get involved and make a difference What’s On Offer £101.40 – £115 per day (depending on experience) Full-time, term-time hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm Ongoing training and development through Milk Education Access to our Unbottled Wellbeing Programme, designed to promote resilience, positivity and personal growth Clear progression routes into counselling, psychology, or teaching The chance to work in Dorking schools that truly value empathy, kindness, and people who care Why Work with Me at Milk Education At Milk Education, we believe in building brighter futures — for students and for our candidates.
