Job Title: Pastoral Support Assistant / Behaviour Support Location: Tameside and surrounding areas Start Date: April or September Employer: Teaching Personnel Contract: Full-time and part-time opportunities available (term-time only) Teaching Personnel are recruiting for Pastoral Support Assistants to work across secondary schools in Tameside and the surrounding areas. These roles are perfect for individuals passionate about supporting students’ wellbeing, behaviour, and personal development in a secondary school environment. The successful candidates will work closely with the school’s pastoral and teaching teams to provide behaviour support, guidance, and mentorship for students. You will assist with monitoring behaviour, supporting interventions, liaising with parents/carers, and contributing to care plans, helping to create a positive and safe school environment. We welcome applications from graduates, care workers, TAs, youth workers, and applicants with no prior experience, as long as you have empathy, confidence, a passion for working with young people, and safeguarding knowledge. Key Responsibilities: Supporting secondary school students with behaviour, social and emotional development Assisting with behaviour management and interventions for individuals or groups Supporting teachers and pastoral staff with monitoring, reporting, and recording behaviour incidents Liaising with parents/carers, teachers, and external agencies as required Promoting positive relationships and engagement among students Supervising students during lessons, breaks, and school activities as needed Contributing to pastoral programs and initiatives within the school The Ideal Candidate Will Have: Experience working with young people in a secondary school, youth work, care, or similar setting (preferred but not essential) Strong behaviour management skills or a willingness to develop them Confidence to step in and support students independently Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Empathy, patience, and the ability to build trust with students Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and a commitment to promoting student welfare What Teaching Personnel Offer: Competitive weekly pay Opportunities across a wide network of secondary schools in Tameside and surrounding areas Temp-to-perm pathways into permanent school roles Ongoing support from a dedicated consultant Access to professional development and training If you are enthusiastic about supporting secondary school students’ wellbeing and behaviour, and want to make a positive impact, we would love to hear from you.
