Job Description

Position: Pastoral Support Assistant Contract Type: Full-Time Temporary (Term Time Only) Start Date: 13/04/2025 Location: Hertfordshire, London, UK Salary: £90–£100 per day Salary dependent on experience and qualifications. Higher rates are reserved for candidates with substantial experience and/or relevant training. Pay is determined in line with school expectations and Agency Worker Regulations (AWR), where applicable. About the Role We are recruiting for a confident and compassionate Pastoral Support Assistant to work within a dedicated secondary pastoral provision supporting students who have been temporarily withdrawn from mainstream lessons. This role is based within a specialist support hub designed to provide a calm, structured environment for students who require additional support with behaviour, emotional regulation, or other individual needs. The provision supports a small group of pupils (typically 3–5 at a time, with capacity for up to 15), allowing for a highly focused and personalised approach. You will work closely with a lead member of staff to help students reflect, reset, and successfully reintegrate into mainstream lessons. Key Responsibilities • Provide pastoral and behavioural support within the specialist provision • Build positive and trusting relationships with students • Support students with behaviour management and emotional regulation • Help maintain a calm, structured, and purposeful environment • Work collaboratively with lead staff to implement behaviour strategies • Support students in completing set work where appropriate • Encourage reflection and readiness to return to mainstream lessons • Monitor and report on student engagement and progress Requirements To be considered for this role, you should have: • Strong pastoral skills and a calm, patient approach • Experience working with young people, ideally in a school or behaviour support setting • Confidence managing a range of behaviours, including challenging behaviour • The ability to de-escalate situations effectively • A proactive, resilient, and adaptable attitude • Experience supporting students with SEMH or SEN (highly desirable) • Excellent communication and teamwork skills What the School Offers • A supportive and collaborative staff team • A strong focus on student wellbeing and inclusion • A structured environment with clear expectations and support • The opportunity to make a meaningful impact on students’ school experience Why work via Teach Now?
