The Role As a Pastoral Support Worker, you will play an important part in helping children feel secure, supported and ready to engage with school life. You will provide practical and emotional support both within the classroom and across the wider school environment. Your responsibilities may include: Providing individual and small-group pastoral support to children. Helping children understand and manage their emotions through appropriate coping strategies. Developing positive relationships that promote trust, confidence and self-esteem. Supporting children through difficult situations with patience and consistency. Encouraging positive behaviour and helping children recognise the consequences of their actions. Providing pastoral support during less structured parts of the school day, including breaks and lunchtime. Delivering targeted pastoral activities and interventions based on individual needs. Encouraging regular attendance, participation and engagement with learning. Helping children develop communication, social and independence skills. Working closely with teachers, pastoral teams, therapists and SEN professionals. Contributing to a safe, welcoming and inclusive school environment. Following safeguarding procedures and maintaining appropriate professional boundaries. About You We are looking for someone who is compassionate, patient, resilient and approachable, with a genuine interest in supporting children's emotional wellbeing and personal development. Experience within education, care, youth work or a support-based role would be advantageous, although this position could also suit graduates and those looking to begin a career working with children and young people. You should be able to stay calm and professional when faced with challenging behaviour or emotional situations, while providing children with clear boundaries, reassurance and encouragement.
