Job Description

Are you a detail-driven payroll professional with technical expertise and public sector experience? Our confidential public sector client is seeking a Technical Payroll & Benefits Specialist to join their team and play a critical role in delivering accurate and compliant payroll and benefits services across their complex organisation. This is a fully remote opportunity, offering autonomy and the chance to work with a supportive and forward-thinking payroll function. 🔍 Key Responsibilities: Manage and process high-volume, complex payrolls in compliance with public sector regulations. Act as a Workday superuser, supporting payroll configuration, testing, and troubleshooting. Oversee end-to-end payroll processes, including statutory reporting, reconciliations, RTI submissions, and audit requirements. Coordinate and administer employee benefits schemes including pensions (LGPS/NHS/Teachers' Pension schemes preferred), cycle-to-work, season ticket loans, and more. Liaise with internal stakeholders and external providers to ensure accurate delivery of payroll and benefits. Assist in process improvement initiatives and system optimisations within Workday. ✅ Ideal Candidate: Proven experience managing complex payrolls within the public sector. Strong working knowledge of Workday Payroll is essential. Solid understanding of UK payroll legislation, tax, NI, pensions (preferably public sector schemes), and benefits administration. Confident working autonomously in a remote environment. Excellent analytical skills, with a proactive approach to problem-solving and compliance.
