Payroll Assistant – Hybrid (Finance Services)

Location: Birmingham, UK (Hybrid)

Salary: £13 – £17 per hour (£26,000 – £34,000 equivalent)

Job Type: Full-Time

About the Opportunity:

Vita CV is hiring on behalf of our client, a finance services firm delivering payroll support across multiple SME and mid-sized business accounts.

With weekly and monthly payroll cycles in motion, the team needs a Payroll Assistant who can work accurately, meet deadlines, and help maintain compliance across payroll processes.

About the Role:

You will support the payroll function across processing, records management, employee queries, and compliance-related administration.

This role suits someone who is detail-focused, comfortable working with numbers, and capable of handling recurring deadlines without compromising accuracy.

Key Responsibilities:

·      Support payroll processing for 100–300 employees across weekly and monthly cycles

·      Review timesheets, salary data, deductions, statutory payments, and payroll adjustments

·      Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure supporting documentation is complete

·      Respond to employee and client payroll queries in a timely and professional manner

·      Assist with pension, holiday pay, sick pay, and other payroll-related calculations

·      Support payroll reconciliations and reporting before final submission

·      Help ensure payroll activity remains compliant with HMRC and internal processes

What We’re Looking For:

·      Previous experience in payroll, finance administration, or a related accounts function

·      Strong numerical accuracy and attention to detail

·      Ability to work to fixed deadlines and recurring payroll schedules

·      Confidence handling sensitive employee and salary-related information

·      Good working knowledge of spreadsheets and structured data entry

·      Professional communication when responding to payroll queries

Nice to Have:

·      Experience using payroll software or bureau-style systems

·      Exposure to pensions, statutory payments, or year-end payroll processes

·      Experience working across multiple clients or business units
