Job Title: Payroll Manager
Location: South Wales (office-based, free parking available)
Salary: £30,000 – £35,000 (depending on experience)
Hours: 9am – 5pm Monday–Thursday, 9am – 4pm Friday (30 min lunch)
Contract: Full-time, permanent
The Role
We’re looking for a Payroll Manager who doesn’t just “do payroll” but takes ownership of it.
This is a standalone role within a professional accountancy practice, where you’ll be responsible for running the payroll function from start to finish—ensuring accuracy, compliance, and excellent client service.
Go-to expert—someone who thrives on responsibility, solves problems confidently, and takes real pride in being the payroll lead.
Key Responsibilities
End-to-end payroll processing across multiple clients with varied needs and pay frequencies
PAYE, pensions, statutory payments, and year-end submissions (P60s, P11Ds, etc.)
Managing compliance with HMRC and staying current with payroll legislation
Acting as the first point of contact for payroll queries, offering clear and practical advice
Spotting issues, improving processes, and ensuring clients receive a smooth, professional service
Supporting a system migration from desktop to cloud-based payroll software
What We’re Looking For
Strong payroll experience, ideally within an accountancy or payroll bureau environment
Solid understanding of UK payroll legislation and systems (Moneysoft/BrightPay experience an advantage)
Excellent communication skills—able to explain payroll clearly to clients
Highly organised, detail-focused, and proactive, with the confidence to work independently
Someone who enjoys being the payroll specialist and owning the function
