Payroll Support Specialist – Analytical, Problem-Solving Role (Hybrid Sheffield)
Are you a payroll professional who enjoys digging into the detail, solving complex queries, and guiding customers to accurate resolutions? This isn’t a standard payroll processing role – you’ll be investigating discrepancies, performing manual calculations, and supporting customers with challenging payroll issues in a consultative capacity.
At Anna Maher Recruitment, we’re supporting a leading Global tech business in Sheffield who are looking for a Payroll Support Specialist. This isn’t your typical payroll processing role – it’s analytical, consultative, and problem-solving focused.
You’ll work as part of the Customer Operations team, helping clients resolve complex payroll issues, correct data, and guide them to accurate outcomes. The role is all about investigating, calculating, and advising – not running payroll day-to-day.
The role:
· Investigate and resolve complex payroll discrepancies.
· Handle queries around PAYE, NIC, statutory leave, and tax.
· Perform manual calculations and data corrections.
· Provide consultative support to customers via phone and email.
· Act as an escalation point for technical or challenging issues.
Typical examples include:
· Correcting YTD errors affecting statutory reporting (e.g., P60s).
· Advising on overpayments and how to recover them outside payroll.
· Reconciling incorrectly processed statutory leave payments.
· Fixing NI threshold errors and their impact.
You’ll need:
· 3+ years payroll experience (bureau, software, or service background preferred).
· Strong PAYE, NIC, statutory leave, and tax knowledge.
· Confidence with manual payroll calculations.
· Excellent communication & problem-solving skills.
· (CIPP qualification desirable but not essential).
