This is a rewarding opportunity to make a massive impact within a supportive secondary school in Blackpool, Lancashire. About the Role: The PE/Sports Intervention Your unique role is to act as a specialist mentor, using physical activity as the primary tool for intervention and engagement. You will focus on improving students' self-regulation, resilience, and attendance. Sports-Led Mentoring: Plan and deliver structured 1:1 and small group sessions utilising sports, fitness, and team-building exercises to teach emotional control, discipline, and collaboration. In-Class Behaviour Support: Provide proactive and reactive behaviour management within the classroom environment, employing effective de-escalation techniques to quickly manage challenging incidents. Pastoral Care: Act as a consistent and reliable figure for vulnerable students, building therapeutic relationships to address barriers to learning and promote a positive attitude toward school. Strategy Implementation: Confidently execute Individual Behaviour Plans (IBPs) and work alongside the Pastoral Lead and SENCO to ensure consistency across the school. Data & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and incident logs to measure the impact of your interventions. What We Are Looking For We are searching for a highly resilient individual with a genuine passion for using physical activity as a therapeutic and engagement tool. Essential Experience: Significant experience working with young people (ages 11-16) who display challenging behaviour, ideally within a school, youth work, or similar setting (e.g., PRU or Alternative Provision). Skill Set: Proven expertise in Challenging Behaviour Management and the application of effective de-escalation strategies. Background: A strong background, qualification, or demonstrable enthusiasm for Physical Education (PE), sport, or fitness is essential. Personal Qualities: Exceptional resilience, empathy, and the ability to command respect while maintaining a non-judgemental approach. Compliance: Full commitment to safeguarding and a willingness to undergo an Enhanced DBS Check. Why Join Our Blackpool School? Located near the coast, our school is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and supportive culture. We offer: A supportive and well-resourced pastoral team. Excellent opportunities for specialist CPD (e.g., Team Teach, Positive Handling). The chance to develop innovative interventions using your sports and mentoring expertise.
