Placement length: One month but likely to be extended depending on the needs of the service.
Job Overview:
We’re looking for a compassionate, detail-oriented Phlebotomist to join our healthcare team. In this role, you’ll play a key part in supporting patient care by collecting, labelling, and processing blood samples with accuracy and care. If you take pride in providing excellent patient experiences, maintaining high clinical standards, and working collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, we’d love to hear from you.
Responsibilities:
* To ensure the timely flow of all samples to the laboratory analytical areas, whilst recognising the urgency of samples to aid patient care and to maintain short turnaround times especially for areas such as OPD clinics.
* To check request forms for ambiguity or errors and following up such errors with medical, nursing or laboratory staff.
* To positively identify the patient checking surname, forename(s), date of birth and registration number against wristband (in patient), verbally (out patient) or in certain cases with an accompanying, responsible individual i.e. parent/guardian, or accompanying member of staff also checking that the patient has received and followed any special instructions e.g. fasting for a specified length of time.
* To ensure that the Blood Transfusion and laboratory labelling policies are strictly adhered to.
* To ensure that all tasks are performed in accordance with current Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and regulations to ensure a high quality service at all times.
Skills:
* Must be Phlebotomy & Cannulation Trained
* Meditech knowledge is desirable
* Must have current experience
* Must be an effective communicator
* Must have cannulation experience
In addition to experience, all Qualified roles will be required to provide evidence of
* Relevant Qualifications
* Registration with the relevant Registration Body if applicable.
