Position Details: Contract Type: Temporary (possible extension) Hourly Rate: £28 - £30 per hour Umbrella Contract Length: 3 months Working Pattern: Full Time Role Purpose: As a Planning Officer, you will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality, robust, and transparent decision-making. You will manage a caseload of complex and high-profile planning applications while providing pre-application advice. Your expertise will ensure that the Planning Service is recognised for excellence in serving all our customers. Key Responsibilities: Manage a diverse range of development management casework, including: - Pre-application advice- Processing planning applications- Approval of details submissions- Certificates of Lawfulness and advertisement applications Provide clear, well-reasoned recommendations in accurately drafted officer reports based on relevant planning policies and material considerations. Stay updated on relevant legislation and proactively adapt to changes. Provide advice on planning best practises within a legal framework. Maintain master copies of all casework, ensuring electronic and paper records are current before any decision is made. Meet service-wide and corporate performance indicators, targets, and customer service standards. Engage in compliance and enforcement matters, fostering innovative conflict resolution for high-quality outcomes. Lead the preparation of evidence for written representation appeals and undertake complex cases as necessary. Offer guidance on straightforward legal agreements and assist with discharging S106 obligations. What We're Looking For: Demonstrable experience in development management, planning policy, and processing planning applications. Strong negotiation skills and the ability to draught well-structured reports. A thorough understanding of planning legislation and best practises. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to engage with stakeholders effectively. A proactive approach to problem-solving and conflict resolution. Why Join Us?
