Rate: £55-£65 per hour - Negotiable DOE
Contract: 3-6 months - with view to extend

A local authority in the West Yorkshire region is seeking a skilled and motivated Planning and Development Lawyer to join its Legal Services team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting one of the UK's most ambitious and forward-thinking local authorities as it delivers on strategic priorities for infrastructure, regeneration, and sustainable development.
Key Responsibilities
Manage a varied caseload in development, planning, highways, and local government law.
Draft complex legal documents, including S106 agreements, highways agreements, and development-related contracts.
Undertake advocacy at inquiries, tribunals, and courts, including complex contested proceedings.
Advise on legal aspects of strategic projects, development schemes, and infrastructure delivery.
Key Requirements
Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or CILEX with strong experience in one or more of the following areas: planning law, development, highways law, or public law.
Be able to confidently manage a heavy caseload, adapt to shifting priorities, and provide practical, solutions-focused legal advice.
Experienced in planning or development law within a local authority or similar setting.
Strong drafting, negotiation, and advocacy skills.
