About this position:
We are seeking an experienced Contract PLC Engineer to join the control systems team for a major engineering project in Oxfordshire. The role will focus on programming, commissioning, and upgrading PLC-based systems, with a strong emphasis on Omron hardware and Sysmac Studio software. The position will involve working across multiple systems, supporting both new installations and upgrades, and collaborating with other engineers and contractors to ensure smooth integration and operation.
Job Responsibilities:
* Commissioning, testing, and fault-finding of PLC-based interlocks and subsystems.
* Developing and modifying PLC software using Omron Sysmac Studio, primarily for NX series PLCs (and legacy CJ2 series).
* Supporting the migration and deployment of new Omron NX PLCs for new build projects and system upgrades.
* Interacting with legacy Siemens S7, S1200, and S1500 PLC systems as required.
* Maintaining detailed records of subsystem hardware configurations and software revision histories.
* Supporting installation, integration, and operational handover of PLC control systems.
* Producing and updating electrical drawings using AutoCAD.
* Writing technical procedures and operational documentation.
* Liaising with and instructing contractors to ensure quality and compliance.
* Participating in occasional shifts during commissioning and operational phases.
Experience Required:
* Proven experience in PLC programming and commissioning, ideally with Omron CJ2 and NX series hardware and Sysmac Studio software.
* Familiarity with Siemens S7, S1200, and S1500 PLCs is advantageous.
* Strong understanding of PLC system integration, interlocks, and sequencing control.
* Knowledge of temperature and water monitoring field devices and their control integration.
* Hands-on, practical approach with strong problem-solving skills.
* Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
* Excellent communication skills, including writing technical procedures and guiding contractors.
* Willingness to work occasional shifts during commissioning and operationsBefore You Apply
