Job Description

Are you an inspirational and resilient educator who believes that every child deserves a voice? Do you have the specialist skills to unlock the potential of learners with highly complex needs? An outstanding specialist school is seeking to appoint a dedicated, creative, and nurturing Key Stage 2 PMLD Teacher to join their passionate team. In this role, you will be more than a teacher; you will be a facilitator of communication, independence, and joy for a small class of wonderful pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties. About The School This is a vibrant, forward-thinking special school catering for pupils with severe, complex, and profound learning difficulties. The school community is built on a foundation of mutual respect, celebration of achievements, and high expectations for all. The staff pride themselves on creating a warm, stimulating, and safe environment where pupils can thrive socially, emotionally, and academically. Key Responsibilities * Design and Deliver: Plan and execute a highly individualised, sensory-based curriculum that caters directly to the unique medical, physical, and cognitive profiles of each pupil. * Assess Progression: Utilise specialised assessment frameworks to accurately track and celebrate small steps of progress. * Lead a Team: Provide strong pedagogical leadership to a multidisciplinary classroom team of specialist Teaching Assistants, ensuring a cohesive approach to care and education. * Communication Mastery: Integrate augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems into daily routines, including Makaton, PECS, Eye-Gaze technology, and objects of reference. * Collaborative Working: Partner closely with a wide range of external professionals, including Speech and Language Therapists (SLT), Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, and specialist nursing staff. * Family Partnerships: Maintain open, supportive, and regular communication with parents and carers to ensure holistic support across both home and school environments. Person Specification * Qualifications: Must hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) valid in the United Kingdom. * Experience: Proven experience teaching pupils with PMLD, severe learning difficulties (SLD), or complex medical needs within a UK mainstream or special school setting. * Pedagogical Knowledge: Deep understanding of sensory integration, therapeutic curriculum design, and moving and handling procedures. * Personal Attributes: Exceptional patience, resilience, warmth, and a genuinely creative approach to problem-solving in the classroom. What We Can Offer You * Competitive Remuneration: Remuneration on the MPS/UPS scale, fully reflective of your experience, alongside a dedicated SEN allowance. * Sensory Resources: Access to state-of-the-art facilities. * Professional Development: A comprehensive, bespoke CPD programme including funded training in Makaton, Team Teach, moving and handling, and pediatric first aid. * Well-being Support: Manageable class sizes (typically 5 to 7 pupils) with exceptionally high staff-to-pupil ratios and access to an employee assistance well-being programme. How to Apply The school is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be required to undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, alongside satisfactory pre-employment references
