Job Title: PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties) Teaching Assistant
Location: Chorley
Salary: £89.89 - £100 per day, depending on experience and qualifications
Contract Type: Full-time, Term-Time Only (Mon-Fri)
Start Date: September 2025
About the Role:
We are seeking a passionate and resilient Teaching Assistant to support students with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD). The successful candidate will work in a dedicated specialist setting where pupils have complex needs including physical disabilities, medical needs, sensory impairments, and severe learning difficulties.
You will play a pivotal role in enabling these young people to access education in a safe, supportive, and sensory-rich environment. This is a highly rewarding role for someone who thrives on meaningful interaction and helping others succeed at their own pace.
Main Responsibilities:
Support pupils on a 1:1 and small group basis across curriculum activities
Provide personal care, including feeding, toileting, and moving & handling
Use visual, sensory and assistive communication methods (e.g., PECS, Makaton, AAC)
Monitor emotional and physical wellbeing, ensuring comfort and dignity at all times
Work closely with teachers, therapists, and families to implement EHCP targets
Adapt learning resources and support access to activities like hydrotherapy or rebound therapyIdeal Candidate Will Have:
Experience supporting individuals with profound or complex needs
A nurturing, patient, and non-judgmental approach
Excellent teamwork and communication skills
Manual handling and basic medical training (preferred, not essential)
A commitment to inclusive education and equality of opportunity
