GSL Education are currently recruiting for a Primary SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a nurturing and specialist provision in Chesterfield. This is a full-time position, ideal for individuals with a background in SEN, youth work, or social care who can offer consistent support to pupils with complex emotional and behavioural needs.
Key Responsibilities for the Primary SEMH TA:
Provide one-to-one and small-group support to primary-aged pupils with SEMH needs.
Assist with the implementation of behaviour support plans and individual education programmes.
Foster a calm, consistent, and supportive learning environment.
Work closely with teaching staff, SENCOs, and external agencies to support student progress.
Support pupils with emotional regulation, communication, and social interaction.
Encourage engagement in learning through tailored strategies and positive reinforcement.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Experience working with children with SEMH or behavioural needs (desirable).
A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach.
Strong communication and behaviour management skills.
The ability to remain calm and consistent in challenging situations.
A full UK driving licence and business insurance (essential).
Relevant qualifications in education, SEN, or care (preferred but not essential).
An enhanced DBS registered on the update service or willingness to apply through GSL Education.
