Primary SEN Teaching Assistant - Health Care Background Welcomed Location: Lewisham Start: ASAP Hours: Full-time, Term-time Are you a compassionate Health Care Assistant looking to bring your skills into an educational setting? Remedy Education is currently recruiting a Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to join a nurturing Primary SEN school in Lewisham. If you have a background in healthcare or personal care and want to make a genuine difference in young lives, this role is for you. Key Responsibilities: Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with a range of special educational needs, including autism, physical disabilities, and speech & language difficulties. Support pupils with personal care needs such as feeding, toileting, and mobility assistance while promoting dignity and independence. Implement strategies from Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), tailoring learning activities to meet individual needs. Collaborate with class teachers, therapists, and parents/carers to ensure student progress and well-being. Foster a safe, inclusive, and positive classroom environment that supports emotional regulation and positive behaviour. Use visual aids and communication tools (such as PECS or Makaton) to enhance understanding and interaction.Requirements: Experience working as a Health Care Assistant or in a care-based role, preferably with children or individuals with additional needs. Understanding of SEN conditions, including ASD, ADHD, PMLD, and sensory impairments. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Empathetic, patient, and flexible approach to supporting diverse learners. Willingness to undertake personal care responsibilities. Must hold or be willing to apply for an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service. A relevant qualification (e.g. CACHE Level 2/3, SEN training) is desirable but not essential.
