Are you an experienced Principal Designer looking to take the next step in your career with a forward-thinking, design-led consultancy? We’re working in close partnership with one of our longstanding clients – a highly regarded, national, privately-owned consultancy – who are seeking to appoint a talented and driven Principal Designer to join their expanding team.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role within a business that is large enough to secure significant, high-profile projects, yet remains agile enough for your voice to be heard, and your influence over CDM design risk management to be fully valued.
The Role
You will take a lead role in delivering Principal Designer duties on a diverse and stimulating portfolio of projects, working collaboratively with a strong in-house team of Project Managers, Architects, and Building Surveyors. This is a strategic hire within the consultancy’s CDM offering, and you will be integral to maintaining high standards of design risk management across all stages of project delivery.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Acting as Principal Designer across multiple, concurrent projects in line with CDM 2015 regulations
Coordinating health and safety matters throughout the design and pre-construction phases
Engaging proactively with clients, design teams, and wider project stakeholders
Advising and guiding fellow professionals on best practice design risk management
Supporting business growth and contributing to internal knowledge-sharing and mentoring
About You
This role is ideally suited to an individual from an Architectural, Building Surveying, or Construction Management background, with the qualifications and experience to lead on design risk management across complex projects.
You will have:
A relevant degree-level qualification in Architecture, Building Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field
Strong working knowledge of the CDM Regulations 2015, particularly the Principal Designer's duties
Professional membership such as RIBA, ARB, MRICS, MCIOB, or similar
IMaPS or CMaPS status with the Association for Project Safety (APS), or working towards it
NEBOSH Construction Certificate (desirable but not essential)
Excellent communication skills and the confidence to advise clients and project teams at all levels
Why Apply?
This is an outstanding opportunity to join a well-established consultancy with a growing pipeline of projects across Higher Education, Healthcare, and Public Realm sectors. You’ll benefit from:
Exposure to landmark projects across the UK
A clear and supported route to progression
A business culture that values and recognises contribution and expertise
Working within a supportive and experienced team of multidisciplinary professionals
If you’re a seasoned Principal Designer looking for a meaningful and career-defining role – where your input truly shapes the outcome – then we’d love to hear from you.
