📍 Location: Remote-based (with travel to Northampton & Thrapston offices as required)
💷 Rate: £280 per day
🕒 Hours: 37 hours per week (Full-Time)
📅 Schedule: Monday to Friday

North Northamptonshire Council is seeking a highly experienced Principal Development Control Officer to lead on minerals and waste development applications across North Northamptonshire, West Northamptonshire, and Rutland. This is a rare and strategic opportunity for a planning professional with deep sector experience to make a meaningful impact across three local authorities.
🔍 About the Role
Working primarily remotely, you'll play a lead role in:

📄 Determining complex minerals and waste planning applications on behalf of three local authorities (NNC, WNC, Rutland).

🗣️ Providing pre-application advice to developers and stakeholders.
*
🏛️ Attending Planning Committee meetings to present and defend recommendations.
*
🚗 Conducting site visits and inspections at permitted and operational sites.
*
📌 Monitoring compliance and overseeing enforcement activity where necessary.
*
🧭 Upholding best practice in minerals and waste development management and providing technical advice to support the delivery of sustainable development outcomes.
✅ Key Requirements
This is not an entry-level post — we are looking for an established professional with:

📚 Significant experience in minerals and waste planning — not just a few cases, but a deep portfolio of work in this complex area.

🧠 Strong understanding of planning legislation, national and regional policy frameworks related to waste and minerals.

🛠️ Proven track record of managing complex applications, site monitoring, and planning enforcement.

🗨️ Excellent communication and negotiation skills to work with applicants, stakeholders, and committee members.

🚗 Willingness and ability to travel to offices and sites across the three local authorities when required.
