Principal Electrical Design Engineer - Building Services Cambridge Paying up to £70,000 An excellent opportunity for an experienced Principal Electrical Design Engineer to join a leading Building Services team in Cambridge. This role is ideal for someone ready to take ownership of complex, high-profile projects, mentor developing engineers, and shape the technical direction of electrical design delivery. About the Role: * Lead electrical design across a broad range of building services projects, from feasibility through to detailed design and site support. * Take strategic responsibility for project outcomes, ensuring quality, efficiency, and client satisfaction. * Act as a senior technical authority, guiding and supporting engineers, while also collaborating closely with mechanical and public health disciplines. * Drive innovation in design, balancing creativity with compliance and cost-efficiency. * Contribute to resource planning, programme management, and multidisciplinary coordination. * Engage directly with clients and stakeholders to interpret requirements, define briefs, and deliver exceptional technical solutions. What You'll Bring: * Demonstrable experience in leading complex electrical designs within the UK Building Services sector. * Proven track record of delivering projects across a range of sectors such as commercial, education, healthcare, or residential. * Strong knowledge of current UK regulations, design codes, and industry best practices. * Proficiency in design tools such as Revit MEP, AutoCAD, and electrical calculation software. * Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills. Key Technical Expertise: * Low voltage distribution and standby generation systems * UPS specification and resilience strategies * Lighting and emergency lighting design * Cable calculations and protection design * Security, access control, and fire alarm systems * Data infrastructure and small power layouts * Lightning protection systems Qualifications: * Degree (BEng/BSc/MEng) in Electrical Engineering or related field * Chartered status (CEng) or actively working towards it through IET, CIBSE, or Engineering Council * Experience with Revit MEP and 3D coordination tools highly desirable The Team Environment: You'll be based in a friendly and collaborative Cambridge office, within walking distance of the city centre and main train station.
