Job Description

Principal Electrical Engineer Location: London (Hybrid – 3 days in office, 2 days remote) Salary: £60,000 – £75,000 per annum Type: Full-time, Permanent Sector: Building Services and Environmental Design A well-established building services and environmental design consultancy in central London is seeking a Principal Electrical Design Engineer to join their expanding team. This role bridges the gap between Senior and Associate level and offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced and capable engineer to step up in responsibility. You will take the lead on electrical design across multiple projects, ensure high technical standards, and support the mentoring and development of junior team members. As a Principal Engineer, you will play a key role in maintaining design quality, coordination and client satisfaction, while helping drive technical progress within the team. Key responsibilities include: Leading electrical design and coordination across a range of projects Developing concepts and overseeing the delivery of detailed design packages Collaborating with architects, contractors and other consultants to ensure integrated design solutions Attending design team meetings and carrying out site inspections Supporting team development by mentoring junior engineers and contributing to internal knowledge sharing Ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations, standards and design guidance Representing the consultancy in a senior technical capacity with clients and external teams Assisting with internal resource planning and design quality reviews Essential requirements: A minimum of 8 years’ experience in electrical building services design Degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or equivalent Chartered or working towards chartership with IET or CIBSE Strong technical knowledge of electrical systems including low voltage distribution, lighting, controls and life safety systems Experience in delivering coordinated multidisciplinary design across RIBA stages Sound understanding of building regulations, British Standards, IET and CIBSE guidelines Proficient in AutoCAD, with knowledge of Revit and BIM processes Excellent communication, leadership and organisational skills Interest in sustainable design and environmental performance Desirable: Experience as a key client liaison or design team lead Familiarity with project finances or internal resource planning Involvement in business development or client retention initiatives What’s on offer: Salary from £60,000 to £75,000 depending on experience Hybrid working: 3 days in the office, 2 days remote Supportive and collaborative working environment Opportunities to work on high-profile, design-led projects Clear progression pathway towards Associate level Commitment to professional development and chartership support If you are a technically skilled and ambitious electrical engineer looking for your next challenge in a leadership role, we would be pleased to hear from you.
