We're working to create a safe and secure world, together - and we're looking for an experienced Principal Civil/Structural Engineer to play a key role in the delivery of complex infrastructure at Devonport Royal Dockyard.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a senior engineer to take technical ownership of significant civil and structural design packages, supporting the refurbishment and development of subway systems within the 10 Dockyard site.
The role is full time, 35 hours per week, with hybrid working available. Ideally, you'll be able to work 1-2 days per week from either Abingdon or Warrington, with project/site requirements dictating the remaining arrangements.
The Opportunity
As Principal Civil/Structural Engineer, you'll provide technical leadership across the design lifecycle, with a particular focus on complex services subways and routes.
You'll lead the structural and civil engineering work associated with:
Refurbishment design proposals for existing subways within the 10D site
Development of new and alternative design solutions
Assessment of condition survey findings and development of remediation strategies
Integration of existing utilities with proposed works
Ensuring civil and structural design requirements are fully coordinated and satisfied
Supporting the engineering capability of new systems throughout the complete design lifecycleYou'll act as a technical authority within the project, providing leadership to design teams and specialist subcontractors while ensuring solutions meet the required engineering, safety, quality and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
You'll be responsible for:
Leading and managing one or more technical design packages, ensuring requirements are met throughout the design process
Providing technical guidance, design assurance and review of subcontracted design work
Ensuring designs comply with specifications, technical regulations, legislation and applicable standards
Collaborating across engineering disciplines and with key stakeholders to integrate designs within the overall facility layout
Managing complex technical interfaces between existing and proposed infrastructure
Maintaining engineering configuration and design intent through effective change control
Providing expert advice to subcontracted design houses to support successful design development
Supporting the development and implementation of assurance and governance arrangements for subway remedial works and new designs
Collaborating with other design houses to coordinate proposed works and facilitate wider project requirements
Supporting project planning, project management and budgetary considerations
Ensuring design activities are delivered in accordance with company procedures covering engineering, health & safety and qualityWhat We're Looking For
We're looking for an experienced Civil/Structural Engineer who can demonstrate strong technical leadership within complex engineering environments.
Essential Experience
Experience in the design of highly complex services subways, routes or similar infrastructure
Ideally, experience within a nuclear, defence or other highly regulated environment
Strong knowledge of civil/structural design and construction regulations, legislation and standards
Understanding of Principal Designer responsibilities under CDM
Experience substantiating Safety Functional Requirements (SFRs) where identified within systems to support a nuclear safety case
Demonstrable experience of technically managing complex design development throughout the design lifecycle
Ability to provide expert technical advice and guidance to subcontracted design organisations
Strong understanding of engineering design and safety practices relevant to the discipline and project environment
Experience working within BIM environments
Awareness of project planning, project management and budget management
Strong understanding of design, health & safety and quality procedures within complex engineering projectsQualifications
Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
Chartered Engineer with membership of an accredited professional body, such as ICE, or working towards Chartered status
Significant relevant experience may also be considered
Security Clearance
Due to the nature of the work, the successful candidate must be a sole UK national and be able to achieve and maintain UK Security Check (SC) clearance.
