A Principal Engineer role with genuine technical ownership.

We're recruiting for a Principal Engineer to join an established engineering organisation delivering complex control systems and engineering solutions across nuclear, defence, energy and other highly regulated sectors.

This is a senior role combining technical leadership, project delivery, client management and people leadership.

You'll have the opportunity to become a key technical authority within the business, working on complex projects where your engineering decisions have a direct impact on successful delivery.

The Role

You'll take ownership of the technical delivery of projects from requirements and design through to integration, testing, commissioning and close-out.

Your responsibilities will include:

  * Leading complex control systems projects and technical solutions.

  * Reviewing and approving system architectures, designs and specifications.

  * Translating customer requirements into robust technical solutions.

  * Leading systems integration, testing, validation and commissioning.

  * Acting as a senior technical authority and conducting technical reviews.

  * Building and maintaining strong client relationships.

  * Leading technical meetings and resolving complex engineering issues.

  * Providing technical sign-off and engineering input during bids.

  * Managing project resources, budgets, risks and delivery.

  * Working collaboratively with software, hardware, workshop and project management teams.

  * Coaching, mentoring and line managing engineering colleagues.

  * Identifying and implementing continuous improvement opportunities.

  * Ensuring projects meet required quality, safety, client and industry standards.

What we're looking for

You'll ideally have:

  * 7+ years' experience in Systems, Controls, Electrical, Hardware or related engineering.

  * Strong systems integration experience.

  * Experience in nuclear, defence, energy or another highly regulated/safety-critical industry.

  * Knowledge of PLC, SCADA, HMI and/or AutoCAD Electrical.

  * Experience taking technical ownership of complex engineering projects.

  * Strong understanding of engineering quality, safety and compliance.

  * Experience leading, mentoring or line managing engineers.

  * Strong client-facing and stakeholder management skills.

  * Excellent technical communication and problem-solving ability.
