Our client, a prominent consultancy in the nuclear sector, is currently seeking a Principal Instrument Engineer to join their team on a contractual basis. This role is centred on delivering core elements of design work, primarily through effective management of technical resources to meet both company and client expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
Managing technical resources to deliver project objectives.
Acting as the single point of contact for the project discipline team.
Ensuring compliance, quality, and driving progress within the team.
Overseeing budget and resource allocation.
Maintaining line management duties.
Executing hands-on design production, including checking and approval.
Resolving complex technical challenges.
Job Requirements:
Extensive engineering design experience across the full lifecycle.
Competence in the specification and design of Safety Instrumented Systems per IEC 61511 and IEC 61508.
Experience in line management and mentoring, with the ability to foster career development.
Knowledge of installation requirements for instrumentation in explosive areas.
Experience with CE marking of plant and equipment, including ATEX, PED, Low Voltage Directive, Machinery Directive, and EMC Compliance.
Awareness of risk identification, quantification, management, and HSE requirements.
Proficiency in project reporting data (KPIs, carbon tracking, change management, and risk/opportunity reporting).
Clear understanding of the UK Regulatory framework associated with the discipline, such as CDM regulations.
Strong organisational, communication, and time-management skills.
Nuclear Experience
Qualifications:
Degree in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent educational experience.
Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status.
Valid safety passport or industry equivalent.
Valid and live clearance to SC level is desirable.
