Job Description
We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Principal Primary Design Engineer to lead the design and delivery of high-voltage substation projects for SSE. This role involves overseeing the full lifecycle of primary design activities, ensuring compliance with SSE and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage the primary electrical design of HV substations (132kV-400kV) for SSE projects.
Ensure all designs comply with SSE specifications and UK regulations.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and design teams.
Collaborate with project managers, civil and protection engineers, and clients to ensure seamless project execution.
Review and approve design deliverables including layout drawings, schematics, equipment specifications, and technical reports.
Conduct design risk assessments, technical reviews, and value engineering exercises.
Support tendering activities, including technical input, design estimates, and client presentations.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, innovations, and regulatory changes.
Essential Requirements:
Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
Proven experience in primary substation design (preferably on SSE or National Grid projects).
Strong understanding of UK transmission and distribution standards.
Proficiency in design tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, or BIM platforms.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working towards it is highly desirable.
Desirable Skills:
Experience with GIS and AIS substation design.
Familiarity with CDM regulations and environmental compliance.
