Contract Opportunity: Principal Engineer - Product Safety (Safety & Environmental) Location: Barrow-in-Furness - Hybrid (2 days onsite per month) Duration: 6 monthsRate: £74.68/hr Umbrella or £55.31/hr PAYE (inside IR35) Clearance: SC required to start (Sole UK Nationals only) The Role: Join BAE Systems' Submarines division as a Principal Product Safety Engineer, working as part of a high-performing Integrated Development Team (IDT). You'll play a key role in delivering submarine systems and capabilities across the full engineering lifecycle, focusing on ensuring product safety is embedded and maintained across multiple complex systems. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain in-depth exposure to submarine capability and system-of-systems integration within a safety-critical defence environment. Key Responsibilities: Deliver Product Safety tasking and activities aligned to engineering lifecycle milestones Support Hazard Identification and Analysis studies Produce and assist in the generation of safety documentation and reports Ensure compliance with the Safety Management System across the project Liaise with IDTs and Whole Boat Safety Teams Promote a strong SHE (Safety, Health & Environment) culture across the programmeYour Skills & Experience: Essential: Strong understanding of Safety & Systems Engineering Experience delivering safety-related engineering tasks, both independently and as part of a team Excellent verbal and written communication skills Self-motivated and adaptable to changing customer requirements Degree-qualified (2:2 or above) in an Engineering disciplineDesirable: Maritime/Defence sector experience as a Product Safety Engineer Familiarity with relevant standards such as ISO 26262, IEC 61508, and IEC 15288 Experience applying ALARP principles, managing safety data, and contributing to safety cases Ready to make an impact on national defence and safety?
