Are you an experienced Nuclear Safety Engineer with a strong background in defence or infrastructure projects? Do you have a proven track record of leading safety case development and stakeholder engagement across complex programmes? Looking to play a key role in shaping some of the UK’s most critical engineering projects? The Opportunity A leading engineering consultancy is seeking a Principal Nuclear Safety Engineer to support major UK defence programmes. This is a chance to influence the design, construction, and operation of high-integrity infrastructure across the full lifecycle—from new builds to decommissioning. You’ll be working with multidisciplinary teams and trusted by clients to deliver safety-led solutions to complex challenges. We would also welcome applications from these industries: defence, aerospace, infrastructure, energy, and transportation. This role would suit candidates working in these roles: Safety Case Engineer, Nuclear Safety Consultant, Safety Analyst, Principal Safety Engineer, Safety Assurance Lead, Safety Case Manager, Risk and Safety Engineer, Safety Systems Engineer, Safety Integration Engineer, or Technical Safety Lead. Your duties and responsibilities will be Define and shape safety case strategies for high-profile nuclear programmes Collaborate with engineering teams to embed safety into design from the outset Liaise with stakeholders including regulators, clients, and site teams to ensure compliance and clarity Lead and conduct structured safety assessments such as HAZOP, FMEA, and HAZID Prepare and review technical documentation including ALARP justifications and safety case reports Provide leadership and oversight to safety case teams and junior engineersYou will have the following qualifications and experience Strong background in nuclear safety engineering within regulated environments Experience leading safety case development and managing multi-disciplinary teams Familiarity with UK nuclear safety regulations and bodies such as ONR or DNSR Proficiency in safety assessment techniques and documentation standards Ability to engage confidently with stakeholders and influence project outcomes Get in touch now If you're seeking a new opportunity and think you have the skills and experience we are looking for, then apply now or contact Chris Hill.
