Print Controller / Estimator
Basildon
£35,000 - £40,000 per annum
We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Print Controller / Estimator to join our busy production team in Basildon. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in print manufacturing, ideally within the direct mail industry, and a proven ability to manage projects efficiently from estimate through to delivery.
This is a hands-on role requiring both operational and estimating expertise, with a focus on quality, cost control, and client satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
* Work closely with the Production Manager and Team Leader to receive clear and complete job briefs, ensuring full understanding of client expectations and production requirements.
* Manage the end-to-end print production process, maintaining efficiency, accuracy, and quality at all stages.
* Estimate print jobs accurately, preparing costings and timelines that align with client budgets and production capabilities.
* Review job specifications to identify the most cost-effective production methods, materials, and suppliers.
* Ensure all jobs are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
* Quickly escalate any delivery or production issues to the relevant manager and assist in finding effective solutions.
* Maintain an up-to-date overview of current production jobs, monitoring progress and proactively reducing waste, costs, and lead times.
* Communicate effectively with Account Management and clients, providing timely updates on job status and resolving challenges collaboratively.
* Keep knowledge current on MIS systems, materials, print processes, and new production technologies.
* Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance production efficiency and quality.
Skills & Experience
* Proven experience in print production – essential
* Background in direct mail production – highly desirable
* Strong estimating skills, including cost breakdowns and production timelines
* Excellent knowledge of print processes, materials, and finishing techniques
* Strong commercial awareness with the ability to balance quality and cost efficiency
* Proficient in using Management Information Systems (MIS) and other production software
* Exceptional attention to detail and organisational skills
* Excellent communication and teamwork abilities across production, account management, and client teams
* Ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively under pressure
