Job Opportunity: Private Sector Housing Technician / Environmental Health Technical Officer
Hourly Rate: £17.85 – £21.38 (Technician) | £21.77 – £23.37 (EHO)
Duration: 12 weeks
Hours: 37 per week (full time)
Location: Hybrid – 3 days per week in the office (training period office-based) Welwyn Hatfield
We are seeking either a Private Sector Housing Technician or an Environmental Health Officer to join our Public Realm Team on a temporary basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in housing standards while developing your expertise within a supportive team environment. You will be part of a busy Private Sector Housing Team, investigating complaints, inspecting sites, licensing HMOs, and supporting colleagues in delivering key housing services.
Responsibilities include:
Carrying out HHSRS inspections and enforcement.
Undertaking HMO licensing inspections to ensure compliance with housing standards.
Assessing empty properties and working with owners to bring them back into use.
Supporting landlord accreditation and ensuring student accommodation meets standards.
Assisting with grant delivery (desirable but not essential).
Enforcing legislation, including:
Housing Act 2004
HMO Management Regulations
Housing & Planning Act 2016
Environmental Protection Act 1990
Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014
Building Act 1984
Requirements
Proven experience in housing enforcement or environmental health.
Ability to manage a varied workload in a fast-paced environment.
Strong knowledge of relevant housing and environmental legislation.
Current driving licence and access to a vehicle with relevant insurance.
Flexibility to undertake monitoring visits outside of standard working hours.
