We're seeking a Product Engineer with a mechanical engineering focus to join a precision electronics R&D team in Norwich. The role supports New Product Introduction (NPI) and production for electronic assemblies, including EMI filters and custom components.
You will help develop new components and manufacturing processes, design jigs and fixtures, and support the transfer of new products to production sites. This is a hands-on role, combining mechanical design, process improvement, and engineering documentation within a collaborative R&D team.
Key responsibilities:
Support new product and process development, including mechanical design of components and associated tooling/jigs/fixtures.
Assist manufacturing sites with assembly processes for electronic components and custom assemblies.
Produce and maintain engineering drawings, BOMs, and controlled documentation.
Contribute to costing and preparation of quotations for new or modified products.
Conduct failure analysis and support yield improvement initiatives.
Specify and source piece parts and equipment for assembly and testing.
Support process improvement and quality initiatives.
Collaborate with colleagues across multiple sites; occasional flexible hours may be required.
Requirements & skills:
Qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronic Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
Practical experience in small component fabrication and assembly; soldering experience is advantageous.
Strong mechanical design skills and experience producing drawings and work instructions.
Proficiency in 2D CAD (e.g., AutoCAD); familiarity with 3D CAD (Fusion 360, SolidWorks) is desirable.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Good analytical and problem-solving skills; failure analysis experience is a plus.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Any exposure to basic coding or automation is useful but not essential.
