Job Title: Production and Transport Planner 📍 Location: NE16 3AS, Newcastle 📅 Contract Type: Permanent 💼 Department: Production and Transport 📈 Reports to: Operations Manager The package details are as follows: Basic salary per annum - £30,000 PA Working Hours: 40 hours per week, Mon - Fri (Apply online only) (unpaid 30 min break) Holiday: 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays Pension: auto-enrolment at 4%, matched by the Company up to 5%. This pivotal role is responsible for developing and implementing production plans that maximise resource efficiency while meeting production targets and maintaining the highest Environmental, Health and Safety standards. You will also manage the transport and distribution of our products, ensuring safe, timely, and cost-effective delivery to meet customer expectations. Key Responsibilities Production & Delivery Planning Develop daily and weekly production schedules aligned with depot capabilities and customer delivery expectations. Collaborate with Production, Contracts, and Sales teams to ensure seamless service and delivery. Monitor production and delivery progress, identifying and resolving issues proactively. Adapt plans dynamically to meet changing customer demands and operational conditions. Ensure clarity on specific loading and delivery requirements (vehicle type, timing, conditions). Identify opportunities for loading optimisation to reduce cost per tonne. Transport Coordination Allocate deliveries to hauliers based on geography and cost efficiency. Liaise with transport companies to ensure effective delivery planning. Coordinate delivery schedules with internal production and transport teams. Maximise transport cost recovery through collaboration with Sales and Contracts. Maintain accurate transport costing records in SAP. Raw Material Stock Control Create and manage monthly raw material stock orders. Monitor stock levels weekly and adjust call-offs based on production needs. Anticipate and resolve stock-related issues in coordination with the Production Team. Reporting & Analysis Provide routine reports on key performance indicators including: Transport cost and utilisation Cost recoveries Production throughput and planning effectiveness Additional Duties Lead or support specific projects as required. Represent the business at meetings or events. Travel to other locations as needed to fulfil role responsibilities. Key Relationships Production Manager, Operations Manager, Transport Team, Contracts Team Sales / Account Managers, Transport Companies, Steel Mill Raw Material Suppliers Operations Administration, Production Team Key Metrics Production optimisation (TPMH) Loading optimisation (tonnes per trailer) Transport contract rates and recoveries Transport cost per tonne and utilisation Raw material stock levels Skills & Experience Required Proven experience in production and transport planning within a manufacturing or logistics environment - Essential Strong planning and coordination skills with a dynamic and flexible approach. Proficiency in SAP, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and planning tools (e.g., Advance Workshop). Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
