Production Shift Manager – Food Manufacturing
Location: Southwest England (commutable from Weston-super-Mare, Bristol, or Taunton)
Salary: Up to £45,000 + 3% pension + 28 days holiday
Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 16:00 (occasional flexibility during peak periods)
Alexander Steele has partnered with a growing food manufacturing business in the Southwest to recruit a talented Production Shift Manager. This is an exciting opportunity to join an entrepreneurial and fast-developing company producing high-quality, innovative food products.
As Production Shift Manager, you’ll play a key role in leading day-to-day production operations and supporting the delivery of the site’s strategic objectives. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you’ll lead and develop your team to ensure production targets, quality standards, and safety expectations are consistently achieved.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide strong, hands-on leadership to shift teams, fostering engagement, collaboration, and a positive culture on the shop floor.
* Ensure all production activities meet daily output, quality, and GMP standards while maintaining compliance with health, safety, and environmental protocols.
* Maintain and develop the site’s Quality Management System, ensuring SALSA accreditation and audit readiness at all times.
* Collaborate with planning and operations teams to align production schedules with sales forecasts, optimising resources and minimising downtime.
* Manage labour and material conversion costs in line with budget, applying lean principles to improve efficiency and reduce waste.
* Drive a culture of continuous improvement through coaching, mentoring, and professional development.
* Maintain accurate shift records, reports, and documentation related to production, stock integrity, and performance.
About You
* Proven experience in a food manufacturing or FMCG production management role, ideally within a shift-based environment.
* Strong people leadership skills, with the ability to inspire, coach, and develop teams.
* Sound understanding of GMP, HACCP, and food safety standards.
* Experienced in managing KPIs, costs, and operational performance.
* A proactive, problem-solving mindset with a passion for continuous improvement.
